Let’s do something great together.

There is a synergistic exchange that happens among everyone involved with Cycle Oregon. Folks that ordinarily would never cross paths come together and support each other. It is about the collective, We.

For over three decades, Cycle Oregon has been building connection and community through cycling. Through our riders, partners, and the communities we visit, we celebrate and support the people and places we experience – and the bike is our tool.

We know that we are all connected in some way; and like a COG in a wheel, collectively we are able to accomplish something much larger than ourselves. We relish the diversity of rural and urban. We embrace the environment that surrounds us, find meaning in it, and work to make a difference. Whether it’s building a new friendship or building a new community center, the Cycle Oregon community is transformational at every level.

Building Connection and Community through Cycling.

Cycle Oregon has diversified our mission to be a more comprehensive and impactful Cycle Oregon. FAQs

  • What is COG?

COG (Community of Giving) is Cycle Oregon’s membership program developed to provide a deeper connection within our community and to support the people and places of Oregon.

By becoming a member of COG, you will:

    • Joining a community that celebrates, supports, and embraces the diversity of people and places and loves doing it from the seat of a bicycle.
    • Supporting statewide rural programming to educate and engage communities through youth cycling, locally hosted events, and bicycle tourism programs
    • Elevating rural voices and connecting others with the diversity of the Oregon experience through our CO Connections Program
    • Developing a scholarship program to provide Cycle Oregon event registrations directed toward creating more diverse and inclusive participation
  • How Long Does my Membership Last?

The 2022 COG memberships are valid through the 2023 Cycle Oregon Kickoff Celebration.

2023 COG membership will open following the 2023 Cycle Oregon Kickoff Celebration.

Cycle Oregon COG membership enrollment is for a limited time, from January 26 – March 11, 2022.

  • Why is COG Membership Enrollment Only Open for a Limited Time?

We need to order the membership products (water bottles, jerseys) 1) in time to get them to folks this summer, and 2) in a financially responsible way (spending membership dollars for just what we need (sizes, quantities) without creating an inventory of overstock items).

  • When Will I Receive my Member Benefits?

All members will receive regular emails throughout the year with additional benefits, everything from a contest to win swag or discounts with Cycle Oregon partners, to special member only events (CDC guidance permitting).

In June we will be hosting an in person pick up in the Portland area for physical items included in your membership. For those located out of town or are unable to pick up in person, COG water bottle, sticker pack, and jersey will be mailed in June 2022.

Breakaway members will have the opportunity to provide input to the Grants Task Force for the annual Cycle Oregon Fund Grant Awards in November; details to come.

  • Is my COG Membership Tax Deductible?

Typically no. Cycle Oregon is a 501(c)(4) social welfare nonprofit. (Check with your tax advisor for clarification) This specific classification under the United States Internal Revenue Service code allows us to publicly advocate for bicycling in Oregon communities, lobby lawmakers, and even endorse candidates for public office. The ability to be politically consequential has been an important part of our work for 33 years. The Cycle Oregon Fund is held at the Oregon Community Foundation (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) to which all Cycle Oregon event proceeds are directed. Since the Cycle Oregon Fund was established in 1996, we have awarded more than 325 grants totaling $2.3 million to communities and organizations throughout the state.

  • Why is Cycle Oregon Offering a Membership Program?

The effects of COVID-19 on 2020 events gave us an opportunity to look at other ways we can make an impact for Oregon, with or without events.  Throughout the last three decades, in addition to events, Cycle Oregon has played roles in advocacy, philanthropy, tourism, and education. It is now time for us to play a bigger role in these other areas. Since the spring of 2020 we have been working with our many partners and communities to find a space to ‘show up’ for Oregon in addition to our portfolio of events. To bridge divides, to support others and to show the vitality and resiliency of Oregon’s residents and communities. And to show them how fun it can be when you are doing it on a bicycle. We are currently developing programs that we will be launching throughout the next year to do just that. By becoming a member of COG, you can help support these programs and keep Cycle Oregon relevant and impactful. Recognized as a trusted brand and ambassador for the state, Cycle Oregon begins our next chapter with a deeper focus of Building Connection and Community through Cycling.
