Let’s do something great together.

There is a synergistic exchange that happens among everyone involved with Cycle Oregon. Folks that ordinarily would never cross paths come together and support each other. It is about the collective, We.

For over three decades, Cycle Oregon has been building connection and community through cycling. Through our riders, partners, and the communities we visit, we celebrate and support the people and places we experience – and the bike is our tool.

We know that we are all connected in some way; and like a COG in a wheel, collectively we are able to accomplish something much larger than ourselves. We relish the diversity of rural and urban. We embrace the environment that surrounds us, find meaning in it, and work to make a difference. Whether it’s building a new friendship or building a new community center, the Cycle Oregon community is transformational at every level.

Building Connection and Community through Cycling.

2021 begins the journey of developing a more comprehensive and impactful Cycle Oregon. We want to deepen the connection we have with the Cycle Oregon community and Oregon’s amazing people and places; to have you play a prominent role in the collective impact we make.

We invite you to become a member of Community of Giving (COG).

By becoming a member of COG, you will:

  • Join a community that celebrates, supports, and embraces the diversity of people and places and loves doing it from the seat of a bicycle.
  • Make it possible for Cycle Oregon to become a more comprehensive organization that makes a deeper impact in Oregon
  • Help drive the development of statewide programming to support, educate and engage communities through youth cycling, local events, and a focus on bicycle tourism
  • Help elevate rural voices and connect others with the diversity of the Oregon experience

2021 COG members will be distinguished Founder’s Club members and will be recognized as the catalyst group that helped reposition the Cycle Oregon organization and community.

Don’t wait too long to join us! Enrollment is only open from April 8 – May 8, 2021.

FAQs

  • What is COG?

COG (Community of Giving) is Cycle Oregon’s membership program developed to provide a deeper connection within our community and to support the people and places of Oregon.

  • What is the Founders Club?

2021 COG members will be distinguished Founder’s Club members and will be recognized as the catalyst group that helped reposition the Cycle Oregon organization and community.

Cycle Oregon COG memberships will be ongoing in the future, but you only have one shot at being a Founder’s Club member of COG, membership enrollment is for a limited time, from April 8 – May 8, 2021.

  • How Long Does my Membership Last?

The 2021 COG Founder’s Club memberships are valid through the 2022 Cycle Oregon Kickoff Celebration.

2022 COG membership will open following the 2022 Cycle Oregon Kickoff Celebration.

Cycle Oregon COG memberships will be ongoing in the future, but you only have one shot at being a Founder’s Club member of COG, membership enrollment is for a limited time, from April 8 – May 8, 2021.

  • Why is COG Membership Enrollment Only Open for a Limited Time?

We need to order the membership products (water bottles, jerseys, duffel bags) 1) in time to get them to folks this summer, and 2) in a financially responsible way (spending membership dollars for just what we need (sizes, quantities) without creating an inventory of overstock items).

  • When Will I Receive my Member Benefits?

All members will receive regular emails throughout the year with additional benefits, everything from a contest to win swag or discounts with Cycle Oregon partners, to special member only events (CDC guidance permitting). For Paceline and Breakaway members, your first membership benefit – a discount on Cycle Oregon branded merchandise – will be included in your membership confirmation email.

In late June we will be hosting an in person pick up in the Portland area for physical items included in your membership. For those located out of town or are unable to pick up in person, COG Founder’s Club water bottle and sticker pack will be mailed mid-June and jerseys and the Shower’s Pass Refuge Duffle Bag will be mailed early -July 2021.

Breakaway members will have the opportunity to provide input to the Grants Task Force for the annual Cycle Oregon Fund Grant Awards in November; details to come.

  • Is my COG Membership Tax Deductible?

Typically no. Cycle Oregon is a 501(c)(4) social welfare nonprofit. (Check with your tax advisor for clarification) This specific classification under the United States Internal Revenue Service code allows us to publicly advocate for bicycling in Oregon communities, lobby lawmakers, and even endorse candidates for public office. The ability to be politically consequential has been an important part of our work for 33 years. The Cycle Oregon Fund is held at the Oregon Community Foundation (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) to which all Cycle Oregon event proceeds are directed. Since the Cycle Oregon Fund was established in 1996, we have awarded more than 325 grants totaling $2.3 million to communities and organizations throughout the state.

  • Why is Cycle Oregon Offering a Membership Program?

The effects of COVID-19 on 2020 events gave us an opportunity to look at other ways we can make an impact for Oregon, with or without events.  Throughout the last three decades, in addition to events, Cycle Oregon has played roles in advocacy, philanthropy, tourism, and education. It is now time for us to play a bigger role in these other areas. Since the spring of 2020 we have been working with our many partners and communities to find a space to ‘show up’ for Oregon in addition to our portfolio of events. To bridge divides, to support others and to show the vitality and resiliency of Oregon’s residents and communities. And to show them how fun it can be when you are doing it on a bicycle. We are currently developing programs that we will be launching throughout the next year to do just that. By becoming a member of COG, you can help support these programs and keep Cycle Oregon relevant and impactful. Recognized as a trusted brand and ambassador for the state, Cycle Oregon begins our next chapter with a deeper focus of Building Connection and Community through Cycling.

  • Will Cycle Oregon be Hosting Events in 2021?

When we cancelled Cycle Oregon’s slate of 2020 events last spring our plan was to navigate the pandemic until it subsided and start 2021 with another full schedule. Fast forward to today and the uncertainty around hosting events remains. While we are hopeful that it will be safe to host an event in 2021, we are also very realistic that this may not happen.

We have called out a ‘Save the Date’ for Classic XXXII from September 11 – 18, 2021.

While our hopes are high, we cannot in good conscience take registrations for this or any event at this time. More will be known about vaccine rollout and the potential for gatherings as we get into late spring, at which point we will make a formal announcement about events and official registration details.

You have come to expect a high-level experience on Cycle Oregon events. If we cannot deliver that experience to you while efficiently complying with all safety requirements, we will not hold any events in 2021. If we can, you will be the first to know when and where!

Paceline and Breakaway COG members receive access to early registration for events.
