Bringing the Joy of Riding a Bicycle to Oregon

Our Origin

Cycle Oregon was born in 1988 with our very first ride, when a thousand riders came together for the joy of riding their bikes down the Oregon Coast. Over the next 30 years we perfected our model of amazing events, bringing riders to the most beautiful places across the state while partnering closely with the communities we rode through to bring needed economic development and tourism to all parts of the state.

Cycle Oregon Today

OUR MISSION

To bring the joy of riding a bicycle to all of Oregon.

OUR VISION

Cycle Oregon is Oregon’s most inspiring, empowering, and impactful non-profit supporting people who want to ride a bike.

OUR CORE VALUES

  • Riding a bike connects people and communities, in your neighborhood, in your city and across Oregon
  • Riding a bike is really good for your health, mental and physical
  • Riding a bike should be accessible to everyone; we should work together to create opportunities to ride regardless of age, race, gender or zip code
  • Riding a bike is good for the planet; we should make it easier and safer for people to choose bikes over cars
  • Riding a bike is so much fun; it brings freedom and leads to personal discovery and adventure…everyone deserves to experience this

We view our mission of bringing the joy of riding a bicycle to Oregon as being so much more than delivering events. We teach kids to safely ride bikes, give away bikes and safety gear, put on summer bike camps, provide scholarships to participate in our events, invest in community projects that support developing safe places to ride and working to attract bike tourism, partner with likeminded organizations, and yes, continue to put on our signature events. Everything we do layers together to help people and communities overcome barriers such as cost, accessibility, knowledge and safety that get in the way of someone experiencing the joy of riding a bike. How cool is that?

Riding a bike is just so much fun that we want everyone to experience it.

Your donation helps support these programs as well as new program development. Consider joining us to help make the joy of riding a bicycle accessible to everyone!

Examples of Our Work

  • Teaching kids to ride bikes: We help deliver the Jump Start program at schools across the state.  Our team rolls up with a fleet of bikes and helmets, along with curriculum, for the school to use for free.
  • Scenic Bikeways: We co-manage the Scenic Bikeways program, the first of its kind in the country.  Working with community partners, routes are developed showcasing beautiful scenery, state history and local communities. These bikeways provide much needed economic support to communities along the bikeway in the form of bicycle tourism.
  • Community Grants: The Cycle Oregon Fund allows us to support communities and not for profits doing projects that support the joy of riding a bicycle.  This includes creating places to ride such as the Salmonberry trail, the Nestucca bike skills park and a pump track in La Grande.  Our grants also support infrastructure across the state including bike fleets and helmets for local education programs, lockers, hostels, repair stations, and bike racks.
