On Friday May 30, 2025, Cycle Oregon Executive Director Steve Schulz joined Travel Lane County representatives in celebrating the ribbon cutting of the Aufderheide Scenic Bikeway on the Historic Office Covered Bridge in Westfir, Oregon. Westfir mayor Richard Watson, Oakridge mayor Brian Cutchen, State Representative for District 12 Darin Harbick and District 5 Commissioner Heather Buch were also in attendance as riders from local bicycling organizations rode across the bridge and “cut” the ribbon on Oregon’s 18th Scenic Bikeway.

The 60-mile route, located about 50 miles east of Eugene, was recognized in 2024 as the 18th route in the Oregon Scenic Bikeway program, co-managed by Cycle Oregon and Oregon State Parks.
In a recent feature story about Aufderheide, @traveloregon says, “Imagine cycling on a smooth, 100% paved road through a forested wonderland, where Douglas firs tower overhead and mossy boulders catch the light in the spongy understory.”
Oregon Scenic Bikeways showcase the state’s beautiful scenery, history and its local communities across 18 routes ranging from 30 miles to 174 miles in length. The program is the first of its kind in the country and are official state-designated routes with printable and digital maps as well as on-road signage.
