Volunteer Spotlight

Cheryl Zander, of Vancouver, WA, is a Cycle Oregon Rest Stop One coordinator. She’s been volunteering with us since 2006 when some friends who were riding Classic that year encouraged her to tag along. “I loved it so much I’ve been back every year”, she says, and adds, “I’ve been to places that I otherwise would probably not ever visit and enjoyed each one.”

What’s your favorite part of volunteering for Cycle Oregon?“I’ve really enjoyed working with Tom, Bob, and Dorothy, the Cycle Oregon Green Team, and local groups, creating an awesome rest stop experience for the riders.”

The Cycle Oregon Green Team, instituted in 2009, is a dedicated group of volunteers educating riders and local volunteers on recycling event waste that makes sure we leave the smallest footprint possible in communities and rest stops. Cheryl understands the influence of Rest Stop One as it sets the tone for the day, the week, and the rider community in connecting the Cycle Oregon mission to the fun of a great bike ride.

What keeps you coming back?“It is rewarding to volunteer for an organization that gives so much back to the communities we visit. I also come back to see the wonderful people I have met over the years. It is a lot of work, but so much fun.”

“Come join in the fun and volunteer!”
