Just because Cycle Oregon rides aren’t races doesn’t mean things don’t heat up a little back at camp. Case in point, the debut of the Twilight Cup at this year’s GRAVEL event. And yes, it was as silly and spectacular as it sounds.

Picture this, a pair of pint-sized penny farthing bikes, a twisty slalom course by the main stage, and epic matchups between friend vs. friend, spouse vs. spouse, even father vs. son. These 29-inch-wheel throwbacks proved surprisingly tricky to ride (and hilarious to watch), giving everyone a new appreciation for the daredevils of the high-wheeler era.

The Twilight Cup is just getting started. Expect more bike shenanigans and joyful moments at future Cycle Oregon events.
