2012 Weekend Ride
July 13-15, 2012 – Oregon State University – “A Ride from the Heart”
Day 1: “Westward Exploration” (Mileage options: 11/36/68 ) Map
On today’s route we’ll explore the western edges of the valley, and some will even set out into the Coast Range a bit. The shorter route loops through Philomath on protected bike paths and country roads; the middle route heads south from Philomath before circling back via rolling roads; the longest route passes in the shadow of majestic Marys Peak, enters the deep-forest setting of Alsea Falls, and returns via Alpine and Bellfountain roads.
Day 2: “Valley Sojourn” (Mileage options: 16/36/66) Map
The second day of riding takes us on a zig-zag, looping journey across the agriculturally diverse Willamette Valley floor. All three routes offer broad scenic vistas of river and field, with copses of trees, rich cropland and verdant pastures along the way. Highlights include Peoria Road along the Willamette River’s banks, the handsome towns of Harrisburg and Brownsville, and Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site.
