Tour de Quarantine – Spring isn’t simply the start of the bicycle racing season it’s also when many of the biggest, most prestigious races take place. After a long winter of waiting many of us were bursting with anticipation for what was expected to be one of the most exciting race seasons in recent times. Professional racing, though, was the first of the major sporting leagues to postpone their events and, for a while, fans were left unfulfilled. In steps the content hero we need, professional race announcer and TV host, Brad Sohner. From his home window watching daily commuters and recreational riders on a downtown Pittsburgh bike path, Brad is announcing the Tour de Quarantine with “racing” action between Lady on Ebike, Guy In Orange, Strava Hunter, and Kid on BMX Bike. Bike Riding as Art – “Some kids are really, really bummed,” said Boulder Junior Cycling’s Executive Director Pete Weber, of the Colorado school closure and bike racing season cancellation. “They had big dreams for the season. So, we’ve been continuing to operate the team virtually.” What the coaches did was ask team riders to continue to ride for training, with appropriate social distancing guidelines, but to use the route-recording platform Strava to sketch images. Coaches thought the kids would simply create basic geometric shapes from their rides but what the kids posted is even more impressive. VeloNews has the complete story. As the Editorial Director for Hearst Enthusiast Group, he oversees Bicycling magazine which has been putting out one great issue after another for as long as we can recall. Ayesha McGowan – @ayesuppose is the first African-American female pro road cyclist ever. Her journey to the pro ranks was one of tireless determination and she now rides to inspire and encourage other African-American women and children to follow their dreams. She enjoys every ride and even in times like now she’s keeping our spirits high. Who else do you know singing songs and playing the ukulele after a demanding session on the rollers?
